Born on 27 July , in Kandulimari village in Bokakhat Division of Golaghat district, Assam, the Assamese young cricket prodigy, Chetry has outshined across various cricket formats and has solidified her position as one of the most prominent picks in the Indian women’s cricket team.

Uma was inclined towards the sport of cricket since her early childhood days, her cricketing talent was discovered by her mother, Deepa Chetry who witnessed her playing cricket with her siblings on the streets of Bokakhat. Although her mother received a lot of criticism for allowing her daughter to play the sport of cricket with the boys of the village, she never hesitated to support Uma’s cricketing talent.
