    Biography

    Joel Philip Myers is a contemporary glass artist, who was born in Patterson, New Jersey, in 1934.

    In 1951, he entered the Parsons School of Design, and graduated with honors in the Department of Advertising Design. In 1963, he received his BFA in Ceramic Design from New York State College, and began working for the Blenko Glass Company in Milton, West Virginia as the the design director.

    While at Blenko, Myers honed his glassblowing skills, and in 1968, earned his MFA in Ceramics from Alfred University in New York.

    • Myers left Blenko in 1970 to begin the glass department at Illinois State University, Normal. Although he officially retired from teaching at Illinois State in 1997, Myers continued teaching and making glass.

    Myers is widely recognized as a pioneer of the Studio Glass movement.
