    • He was born in Nice, France, on October 10, 1731, into a renowned Anglo-Norman family. Cavendish completed his studies at the prestigious University of Cambridge in 1753.

    Contributions to Chemistry

    Cavendish's work in chemistry focused on pneumatic chemistry, and he is considered one of its pioneers.

    In 1766, he isolated pure carbon dioxide and hydrogen, mistakenly considering the latter to be "phlogiston." He also determined that the composition of air is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. Cavendish obtained nitrogen oxides and, i
