Charles-Marie-Georges Huysmanswas born on February 5, 1848, in Paris, France, to a Dutch father and a French mother.

Literary Career
Aesthete and DecadentIn 1876, Huysmans published his first novel, "Marthe," a story about a prostitute. He went on to write several other naturalistic novels, including "Les Soeurs Vatard" (1879) and "En Ménage" (1881).
However, it was his 1884 novel, "À Rebours," that brought him fame as the "catechism of decadence."
Break with Naturalism and Conversion to Catholicism
In the 1890s, Huysmans broke away from naturalism and explored religious themes in his writing.
In "En Route" (1895), he chronicled his own conversion to Catholic
